In honor of National FFA week, the high school FFA chapter invited us over for a petting zoo. It was a fun little outing where we were able to walk over to the high school and have a chance to see, listen to, feel and smell some animals. We also were able to have a chance to look at some farming equipment. The most fun part was climbing up into a tractor to honk the horn. I am sure all of the neighbors loved the music coming from our direction!

States of Matter!! Did you know everything in life can be categorized into three different states? We had fun learning about solids, liquids and gases this past week. With help from our friend Olaf, we started out realizing that anything and everything can be either a solid, liquid, or a gas. In our "Race to a liquid" experiment, we found out we needed to add heat to a solid in order for it to change. Next we turned liquid into a gas. Some of the evidence we found was the formation of bubbles! I loved all of the excitement in the room! We end a week with a "tasty, 3 state" treat. We started with the solid ice cream, poured in the liquid root beer and formed some gas. It was a well deserved snack!
Boy have I dropped the ball on staying caught up with all that is happening in our classroom! Don't let the lack of post mislead you because we sure have been busy! Here are a few things that we have been learning... Michael Anthony SteeleWe were so lucky to have a visit from the author Michael Anthony Steele! First he taught us about the metaphor 'wearing many different hats', we learned it doesn't necessarily mean actually wearing different hats, but instead doing many different jobs. Lucky for us, Mr. Steel made his background a fun adventure where each job really did have him wearing a different hat, from his large hat collection! When he came across something he was interested in, he told himself four special words: "I CAN DO THAT!" He gave us a challenge, when we come up on a new adventure, we need to remember these four words and we can do anything! We are... METEOROLOGISTS.Throughout our weather unit we were able to conduct several experiments to see different types of weather at a smaller scale. Our imaginations ran us onto other types of weather that weren't planned but were fun to learn about since we never have here in Brush.
Inside Recess.. No WorriesWith all of the weather talk, we sure have had some colder weather in our neck of the woods. Since we are unable to enjoy some time outside, we have been taking part in some brain breaks. Here are a few pictures :) It might be a little late but here are some pictures of our Friendly Thanksgiving Feast! Wow, do we know lots of facts about many different kinds of animals. We worked really hard to create pieces that had bold beginnings, stay focused on one topic and were full of facts. All of our hard work paid off when we were able to share our pieces with our friends from Mrs. Saucedo's class. It was awesome to hear them ask related questions and find answers once they were done sharing. I think this might have sparked some authors for the next round!
